Katie's Int. Friends
who have discovered the joys
of
"Being Out and About"
This picture is one of my all time favourites of my birds and I being out and about. It was taken June, 2005. Midnight Dome, The Yukon. Alaska range of mountains. It is the highest point one can go in N.A., by car..Approx. 4,100 miles from home.
"Zipporah" is our very first member bird on our page.
She is a CAG, who lives in Pennsylvania and is loved by Robyn
Robyn said on one of her first outings she went to the park bandstand.
The group playing was a duo called Mango Men.  Can you tell what type of music they played?  They play in the style of Jimmy Buffet.  I thought taking a parrot to a JB style group would be most appropriate.  One of the Mango Men noticed Zipporah & between songs asked about her, what type of parrot, her name, etc.  Then the next song they sang he said was dedicated to Zipporah!  Also, when they sang Margaritaville, when they got to the line it was all my damn fault, he sang it was all Zipporah's fault!  Too funny!
Zipporah made some new friends.  A local radio station, B101's mascot was there.  Zipporah wasn't sure what to make of him.

After the musician called attention to Zipporah, it was impossible to keep low keyed & during intermission, we had a crowd.  I just kept giving her treats & she was fine
"Leah" is a beautiful CAG that lives in Alabama loved by her Mom Lee.

"Fandago" is a very lucky birdie.  He has a wonderful outdoor aviary to play in.
He is loved by Colleen and lives near Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
You will have to look very carefully to see "Tini" :-) She is in the carrier that Lizzette is holding. The picture was taken on the Drumheller Suspension bridge in Alberta. When they hiked around any where these are the cages they used. The larger cages they used are at the campsite.
Tini is a Pacific Parrotlet that lives near Edmonton,
Alberta, Canada and is so loved by her Mom Karin.
Tini
Meet "Cauley" who lives in Indiana. He is a beautiful Blue and Gold Macaw who goes camping with his Mom, Margie & Dad Ron in their big motor home. Here he is camping in Kentucky at the General Butler Resort Park.
He enjoys nothing more than to sit under the
awning licking peanut butter off his spoon.
This is his outdoor set up
Note:
Cauleybird is outdoors
unrestrained only
because he is a feather picker. There is no way he can fly
otherwise his Mom says she would never take a chance with him.
Meet "The Dynamic Duo" Molly and Zoey who are loved very much by Eve.
"Molly" a beautiful TAG has an adventure pack that she is happy to be outside in. She feels safe in her carrier. Zoey the cute as can be WBC loves being on her harness and going out to feel the warm sun on her feathers. Molly watches her carefully. Maybe she is thinking that one day she would like to have her very own harness too. I am sure Mom Eve would love to help her get to that stage.
Here are "Kiwi", (African Brownhead)
and "Maui", (Panama Amazon)
enjoying the beautiful day in their screened in porch.
These beautiful parrots live in
Indianapolis and are loved very
much by Penny.
Meet "Ennaej " aka Squeaky-Squeaky as she calls herself would like to share a few pictures of herself in her travel cage on her way to go visiting bird friends!  She's a 2 yr old Black Palm Cockatoo who loves to visit people and show them that despite her big beak she's actually very gentle, calm and easygoing.  She's gone to a few friends houses and also to a bbq last summer!!  She travels very well and happily plays with her toys!  Ennaej is loved by Cindy. They are from Florida.
This is "Kiwi". She lives in Quebec, Canada and is loved very much by Stacey. She's a 9 month old spectacled parrotlet.  She just went on her first airplane ride to Toronto from Montreal.  She was a very big hit with the WestJet employees, who treated her like royalty.  She supervised the people getting the airplane ready to go.  Kiwi was a really good girl in her travel cage the entire time!  Now she is very happy to be back at home :)

West Jet employee
Here is "Ming" who is loved by Lynne. They live in Pennsylvania.
Ming loves to hang out on the deck, shaded by a big
tree, under the watchful eye of her Mom. Lynne said "I am very careful with regard to hawks - you must be watchful, even though they do not fly around here often, one should be able to recognize their outline when in flight, especially with smaller birds.?"
Ming was born with a broken wing which has made her unable to fly at all.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer's "Timmy" who is loved by Leslie.
They live in Michigan.
Leslie said "This photo was taken  on my deck. I have a whiskey barrel pond with a little waterspout,
it's quite serene. I love to sit out, have my coffee and knit. Now  with Timmy's new larger outside cage, I can take him out with me. I  have a canopy that covers a 12 x 20 foot section of my deck so Timmy
will have a nice place to "hang out." I plan on spending more time
outside, it's just so peaceful.
"Balou" is a White Pacific Parrotlet, loved by Marcy, who is out and about for a very special reason..
July 27th he flew from his breeder in Florida to his forever home with his new Mommy in Utah.

Let me otta here!
Hello, are you my new Mommy?
Elaine's "Hotshot "enjoying his very first outing
Judie......I'm so excited........it was quiet in the house this morning....so I put the adventure pack on the table and Hotshot and I played with it...I talked to her quietly and explained that was for going outside with momma...and that it was going to be fun for her..I told her over and over she didn't have to be afraid of it, I would always be with her when she was in it....I just put my hand at the bottom of the cage and told her to step up.......trust me....I was shocked......she did....and went inside.....I took her outside on my front porch for about 5 minutes...and showed her all around...the dog was in the yard ..(she loves the dog) and I told her...see..that's where Blade plays....then I sat her on the rail of the porch and let her just look.....I took her inside, opened the cage and told her what a good girl she was.....what really made me feel good...was the faith she had ........it was just like speaking to a child....
She came in...took a nap, ate a bit....(lol)  then I got the cage back out.....opened the door...and said...Hotshot...would you like to try that again, mom will take you outside.....she climbed all over it this time.....and laughed at me ...from the top...but came down again, I leave my hand outside the cage....she steps on me first......this time we stayed outside awhile longer.......my husband laughed at me....I think she was getting to hot....lol  he reminded me....its a parrot...they come from the tropics......but it was a great start and I'm so proud of her.......I'm attaching two pictures for you to see...not sure there good enough yet for Katie's blog.....but they sure are  "Proud Momma" pictures.   Can't wait for the cooler weather....the stroller is next....
Thanks again for your help..Elaine
Judy and "Professor Elliott" - Missouri
Professor Elliott and Judy took and passed with flying colours the course given by "Pet Therapy of the Ozarks." Everyone was delighted to have a wonderful Parrot taking the course.

In this picture they are out enjoying the day and taking part in the Children's Miracle Network 10K with other members of  Pet Therapy of the Ozarks

He has also gone to a nursing home where he was a huge hit with all the residents.

Professor Elliott is very gently and patient allowing everyone to give him a pat..

We are all so proud of him and his Mom and wish them well with this wonderful project they have undertaken.

Maybe seeing this will inspire others to do the same with their parrot..

when he yells at people as they walk passed their campsite. I imagine bringing about many the conversation and meeting new friends.
Christine's "Peck" - Maryland
They just had a deck put on their little house. Christine and her husband were enjoying their morning outside and decided that Peck needs to be out as well.
